Some homes are built to a plan. This one was built around a life. Custom-designed and completed in 2014, the residence at 16081 Purcellville Road sits on approx. three open acres in western Loudoun County, with long views toward the Blue Ridge, a creek along the landscape, and not an HOA in sight. From the wrap-around porch to the working garage out back, it was made for the way families actually live — together, and with room to spread out.

A main level made for gathering

Rich hardwood floors run through formal living and dining rooms, a dedicated home office, and a light-filled family room that opens to the heart of the house — a vaulted kitchen finished with Thomasville cabinetry, granite counters, and GE Profile stainless appliances.

A breakfast area sits in a bay of windows that frames the backyard, and the whole level flows with the kind of ten-foot-plus ceilings and crown molding that make everyday mornings feel a little more gracious.

Room for every generation under one roof

One of the home's most distinctive features is a main-level in-law suite with its own kitchen — matching Thomasville cabinetry and granite — a full bath, and a separate living area. Whether it welcomes extended family, long-term guests, or a live-in caregiver, it offers independence without anyone leaving home.

The forward thinking continues behind the scenes: an elevator shaft is already framed and in place, ready for a future elevator, and the main level was designed for single-floor living with main-level laundry and a range of accessible touches throughout. It is a rare thing to find a home that plans for the decades ahead this thoughtfully.

An upstairs retreat

Upstairs, three generously sized bedrooms each enjoy an en-suite bath. The primary suite is designed as a calm place to land at the end of the day, with a soaking tub and a walk-in closet.

A detached garage unlike any other

For the car collector, the maker, or the weekend hobbyist, the detached garage is the showstopper. Heated and cooled, fitted with two automotive lifts, and able to hold up to approx. eight vehicles, it is a genuine working space — right down to its own half bath. Above it, a finished one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen offers comfortable, self-contained space for guests, a home office, or independent living. The apartment furnishings convey with an acceptable offer.

The "She Shed," the grounds, and room to grow

A charming 16' x 24' "She Shed," styled to match the detached garage, makes an ideal studio, workshop, fitness room, or quiet creative retreat. The level backyard leaves plenty of room for a future pool, gardens, or outdoor entertaining, and the board-fenced acreage offers space to spread out — chickens included, since the zoning happily welcomes them. Practical essentials are handled, too: Verizon Fios fiber internet, a well, and a conventional septic system.

Western Loudoun, at its best

Purcellville is the gateway to Loudoun's wine and horse country, where rolling pasture meets some of the region's most highly rated schools — Woodgrove High among them. The W&OD Trail reaches its western end in town, and Main Street's shops, restaurants, and weekend markets are minutes away, with Leesburg, Middleburg, and the wineries and breweries of the foothills all within easy reach.

A note from the owner

This has been our home, and letting go of it is bittersweet. We built our life on these acres, and we are moving on to a new chapter near the coast in Wilmington. My hope is a simple one — that the next family comes to love this porch, these rooms, and these wide-open views as much as we have.
